Spotlight on OSI Group’s Recent 2016 Globe of Honor Award and Baho Food Acquisition

OSI Food Solutions UK bagged the celebrated Globe of Honor award in 2016. The award is usually awarded by the British Safety Council and OSI Group managed to scoop it due to their exemplary environmental risk management. Winners were announced during a luncheon held at Drapers’ Hall, London on November 25, 2016.

The OSI Group was among the 18 organizations that were awarded with this prestigious award due to their commendable and great environmental management practices.

About the Globe of Honor Award

An organization has to fulfill the conditions set by the council in order to be considered for it. The organization undergoes an audit scheme where it has to garner the maximum five stars to earn a consideration. In OSI Group’s case, an environmental management audit scheme had been carried out earlier by the British Safety Council (August 2015 – July 2016).

OSI Group also carried out a demonstration to showcase their merit before an autonomous panel of experts on their environmental management. This merit covered all aspects of the business all the way from the ground floor to the boardroom.

Reactions to the Award

British Safety Council chair, Lynda Armstrong OBE, expressed her praise to the OSI Group for winning the award on behalf of her council staff and trustees. Lynda talked about the stature that comes along with the award as it is a reflection of the great management followed by such an organization on the various environmental hazards present today.

She was happy with the high number of organizations that managed to win the award for adopting a great integrated approach in environmental protection. The award was received by Kelly Grimwood, the environmental manager Europe of OSI Group from the chief executive of British Safety Council, Mike Robinson. OSI Group has won the same award previously on two occasions in 2013 and 2015.

Acquisition of Baho Food

OSI Group made an announcement that it had acquired Baho Food, a Dutch company that manufactures convenience foods, deli meats and snacks. Baho Foods serves a number of retail segments as well as the food service in general. There were no specific figures released concerning the transaction. Bruce Levenson Heads To Court Over Danny Ferry Insurance Claim

On June 24th 2015 the Atlanta Hawks Basketball and Entertainment LLC group headed by United Communications Group founder Bruce Levenson sold the NBA franchise to a consortium headed by technology billionaire Tony Ressler for a reported $730 million; the former Hawks ownership group has not been able to bring their links to the NBA to a close as a workplace insurance claim relating to the mutual termination of the contract of former General Manager Danny Ferry drags on. Bruce Levenson‘s group is now working with the Barnes and Thornburg law firm in their bid to reach a conclusion to the insurance claim now being brought against New Hampshire based insurance giant AIG.

ESPN describes Bruce Levenson as a well known figure in the NBA after heading a buyout of the Atlanta Hawks and NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers franchises in 2004. Levenson’s consortium jettisoned the Thrashers franchise to allow the group to focus their attentions on the basketball side of operation that led to a rise from the bottom of the NBA standings to the number one seed position in just over a decade. Over the course of his ownership of the Hawks Bruce Levenson was always keen for the franchise to play a key role in community events and programs, including a 2014 trip to the U.S. Holocaust Museum to promote the work of this charitable group backed by the Levenson family.

The claim currently making its way through the Superior Court of Fulton County dates back as far as April 2nd 2015 when the then Hawks ownership began discussing events surrounding Danny Ferry the group felt triggered the workplace practices policy held by AIG. Despite repeated attempts Bruce Levenson’s attorneys claim AIG has failed to respond to communications about the insurance claim that was initially triggered before the Hawks were purchased by Tony Ressler’s consortium.
